“I love my hair.. now what..?

Don’t worry I got you… Here is my Custom Curly Hair Checklist:

  •    Keep styling products in your shower for easy access and to avoid making a mess in your bathroom.
    •    Wash your hair first when you get in the shower. Shampoo only the roots, then rinse thoroughly.
    •    Apply conditioner to the mid-shaft and ends of your hair. Leave it on while you wash the rest of your body, giving your hair ample time to soften and absorb the conditioner or mask.
    •    Use a wide-tooth comb or brush to detangle your hair while the conditioner is in. This helps distribute the conditioner evenly and makes it easier to scrunch in styling products without tangles. Rinse out the conditioner thoroughly.
    •    After your shower, flip your hair upside down and scrunch out excess water. This also helps activate your curl pattern.

Styling Tips
    •    If you’re not hearing the “squishing” sound while applying products, lightly mist your hair with a spray bottle to add more water.
    •    Start with a quarter-sized amount of your curl product and scrunch it into one side of your hair. Place the ends of your hair into your hands and scrunch upward toward the roots.
    •    Repeat on the other side with another quarter-sized amount of product. To ensure full coverage, you may need to divide your hair into sections and repeat this process (up to four times if you have thick or long hair).
    •    Use a microfiber towel to remove excess water. Flip your hair to the side and gently scrunch with the towel—avoid rubbing, as this can cause frizz and disrupt your curl pattern. The goal is to create a cast for curl definition, not frizz.
    •    I recommend using a microfiber towel wrap like the ones linked below:

    •    Leave your hair wrapped in the microfiber towel while you get dressed or do your makeup to reduce drying time.
    •    Use a diffuser to dry your hair:
    •    Start by hovering the diffuser over your hair for the first 5 minutes.
    •    Then gently push the diffuser up into your curls without creating frizz. Hold it in place for about a minute until the roots feel warm, then move to another section.
    •    Diffuse for 10–15 minutes (or as long as you prefer), then let your hair air-dry the remaining 10–15% to save time.
    •    Avoid touching your curls for about 30 minutes after diffusing to maintain curl definition and prevent frizz.

Finishing Touches
    •    After about two hours, fluff your hair to add volume. Flip your head upside down, place your fingers at the roots, and gently shake from side to side. You can also use a hair pick to lift your roots slightly for added volume.
    •    Important If air-drying, do NOT touch your hair for 2–3 hours after applying products. Your hair will go through an “ugly” frizzy phase before it settles. This is normal. Touching it will make the frizz worse. This is why I often recommend diffusing instead of air-drying. If it looks bad during this phase, resist the urge to touch it—just trust the process!

Maintaining Your Curls Between Washes
    •    Try to wash your hair only once or twice a week to maintain its health and manageability.
    •    Refresh lazy curls with a curling wand instead of washing. This helps perk up curls without the hassle of a full wash. I recommend this wand from Amazon:

    •    For second-day hair, if you don’t want to wash or use a curling iron:
    •    Apply a spray gel or any light-hold spray product.  Mist evenly over your hair, twist any limp curls, and scrunch.
    •    You can also style your hair in a half-up, half-down look or wear it up for a fresh style on days you skip washing. Get creative!

Additional Tips
    •    Use a silk pillowcase to reduce frizz while you sleep.
    •    Avoid brushing your hair between washes, as it will cause frizz and disrupt your curl pattern.
